This last weekend was the first round of the NWCup series in Port Angeles, Washington. Bryn Atkinson, and Jill Kintner raced the event, with team support from 3rd team member Lars Sternberg.
(Lars is out for a few weeks recovering from surgery to repair a ruptured ligament in his thumb sustained during training. Lars is expected to have a full recovery and should be returning to competition by the NY Pro GRT round in May)
The team has been training hard this off season and it showed, with both Bryn and Jill taking first place in the pro Men's and Women's finals. The weather was stellar for Fri and Sat, and spirits and camraderie was high between all the riders. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and it sounded as if this was one of the best courses to date.
Sunday arrived and so did the weather. It rained off and on for most of the day, but the team was prepared. After a tire trimming session Sat night the bikes were equipped with cut down Maxxis Wet Scream tires, and THE mud guards. After qualifying Jill and Bryn both held the top spots. In the finals the Pro Women were first to come down, and Jill took a commanding win by 21.63 seconds over second place finisher Jaime Rees, and third place finisher Chelsea Stevens. After a short break the men were off, and Bryn was the last rider down. He took the overall win by 1.34 seconds, after second place Dean Tennant stepped up his time from qualifying. Third place in the men's category was rounded out by Kyle Thomas.
The team headed straight for some victory PHO' to warm up, and then to drop Lars off at the airport to fly out for surgery. Big thanks go out to NW productions for putting on one of the best races in the US!
